Mântuleasa slum was established during the Brâncoveni period, outside the city and was to develop around the church with the same name, being incorporated into the city’s hearth in 1752. Important figures such as Mircea Eliade, Petre Țuțea, Panait Istrati or Mircea Vulcănescu, lived and created in the houses of the famous slum. Located at the intersection of St. Stephen's and Plantelor streets, in the former Mântuleasa slum, at short distance from the city center, a monumental historical villa makes itself known, through neoclassical architecture, remaining a symbol of the elitist lifestyle of the pre-war period. The villa is in perfect condition of preservation, keeping all its original architectural elements from the time of construction. From the very first moments of the viewing, we begin to understand that we witness an impressive demonstration of Neo-Romanian architecture and elegance, under the imprint of the architect Ernest Doneaud. The refined ornamentation, on the façade, but also in the interior space, comes to add a touch of uniqueness to the property. The ground floor has a total usable area of 217 sqm and accommodates 6 rooms, a main hallway and a service hall, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and various storage spaces. The rooms and hallways are tall and bright, keeping many decorative elements, among which we notice ornamental details, friezes, oak parquet, mosaic, and the solid wood doors with bevelled crystal glass. The interior staircase of solid wood takes our steps further. The 1st floor and the attic, with a usable area of 224 sqm, consist of 2 rooms, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and an open space area that can be divided and reimagined according to personal preferences. At the same time, the property has an attic with a usable area of 69 sqm, which can be used for storage or be compartmentalized. Therefore, the future owner can enjoy the generosity of the space and reinvent it, depending on their preferences. Outside, the veranda area is an excellent space for special moments spent with the family. The semi-round wooden greenhouse and the terraced garden on two levels are other attractions of the house, their project being made by the architect Paul Smărăndescu. The potential of this architectural jewel, conveniently located in the historical area of Bucharest, is a real one. A possible future destination may be for both a cozy residence that preserves and carries the perfume of the pre-war period, but also of a sophisticated restaurant, a café, or the headquarters of a company.
The property is also available for rent at the price of 5,000 euros / month + VAT. Photo: Gabriel Ghizdavu
