Located on Lotrului Valley, the name of this settlement is not accidental. Legend has it that on this valley of "thieves" (lotru in the archaic language meaning thief) lived the gangs of the outlaws led by Malai, Ciungu and Voinea. Today, the commune of Malaia, Ciunget and Voineasa keep the names of the characters that are said to have founded them. Valea Lotrului starts near the town of Brezoi, at the confluence between Lotru and Olt rivers. Transalpina Ski Resort, the newest ski slope in the country with a total length of 9 km, is 48 km from the holiday villas, and after another 7 km you can reach Obârșia Lotrului where you will find one of the most spectacular transalpine roads in Europe, also known as the Road of the Kings.
