Fort Morgan Cay is a stunningly gorgeous 32 acre private island located in Port Royal, a protected harbor on the eastern side of Roatan, one of the bay islands of Honduras. This private island boasts a beautiful move in ready home which includes a large open air dining area, 8 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, an expansive pool deck and terrace, as well as a boat house and four boats. There are countless places to relax and enjoy the Caribbean scenes and atmosphere from around the gorgeous home. The spacious home, unspoiled white sand beaches, and privacy of your exclusive island makes this a great spot to entertain and relax with family and friends.
Fort Morgan Cay is a piece of living history as well. In the early 1700's it was home to a Spanish fort, hence its name. To this day it still has the remains of the wall as well as other original infrastructure in tact.
Unlike the West of Roatan, which is a well-known tourist destination, the East side is completely virgin and unspoiled. area has some large vacation homes and is one of the most exclusive areas of Roatan. The area is home to Port Royal National Park, which has some great hiking trails, and the Marine Reserve to the east, which is a protected mangrove area.
Roatan International Airport is located an hour away by car and has direct flights to Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Toronto and Montreal, as well as other charter destinations. Alternatively, Fort Morgan Cay has its own 2400 feet runway that can accommodate small propeller planes.
The island sits directly on the coral reef. The side facing the ocean is great for snorkeling and diving and the side facing the bay is perfect for swimming and harboring large boats. It has 3 white sand beaches (the only ones in the area). Approximately one-third of the island is virgin mangroves, great for kayaking through the canals.
In terms of infrastructure, there are solar panels and batteries which provide sufficient electricity. In addition, there are two back up generators. There is power in Port Royal, so the new owner could also connect to the power grid via an underwater cable (less than a mile away). Rain water is collected and there is room to store 40,000 gallons in two cisterns.
Also included is staff housing (10 bedrooms total), kitchen, laundry, storage, generator room and three over-water docks. All buildings are made out of local wood.
